Rotherham United is making headlines as they spearhead the chase to secure the services of Shrewsbury Town’s goalkeeper, Marko Marosi, on a free transfer this summer. As reported by the Shropshire Star, the Slovakian shot-stopper is on the brink of joining the Millers as his contract with Shrewsbury Town nears its end.
Having cemented his position as Shrewsbury’s first-choice goalkeeper since his arrival from Coventry City in 2021, Marosi showcased his prowess by making 48 appearances across all competitions last season, boasting a commendable tally of 11 clean sheets. His contributions played a vital role in maintaining Shrewsbury’s status in the League One for another season.
A potential move to Rotherham United presents Marosi with the opportunity to reunite with former Coventry City captain, Liam Kelly, who has already made the switch to the Millers under the management of Steve Evans. Joining a squad with several players boasting promotion experience, Marosi’s addition could significantly bolster Rotherham’s aspirations for a return to the second tier of English football.
Despite a challenging 2023/24 campaign that saw Rotherham United relegated to League One and a drought of away victories spanning almost two years, the club is gearing up for a resurgence under Steve Evans. With strategic signings like Joe Rafferty, Liam Kelly, and Jonson Clarke-Harris, Rotherham is aiming to fortify its squad. Marosi’s potential arrival would provide stiff competition for the goalkeeper position, intensifying the battle for the number one spot alongside Dillon Phillips.
As Rotherham United leads the chase for Marosi’s signature, excitement brews among fans, eager to witness the transformation of their team under new management. With a blend of seasoned campaigners and promising talents, Rotherham United is poised for a compelling journey in the upcoming season, fueled by the prospect of reclaiming former glories.
