Legendary Talent Agent Don Buchwald Dies at 88

Don Buchwald, a renowned talent agent and the founder of the Buchwald Talent Agency, has passed away at the age of 88. Buchwald, who was a pivotal figure in the entertainment industry, died at his New York home. His death marks the end of an era for a man who was widely celebrated for his contributions to the field.

Buchwald’s legacy is closely tied to Howard Stern, the outspoken radio personality who had been under his representation since 1984. Stern, who often referred to Buchwald as “Superagent” on his show, shared a profound personal and professional bond with him. In reflecting on Buchwald’s impact, Stern told the New York Times that having Buchwald in his life was akin to having a vital part of himself and that his absence would leave a significant void.

In 1977, Don Buchwald established his talent agency, Don Buchwald & Associates, with a modest team of five agents based in New York. The agency quickly gained traction, leading to its expansion with a second office opening in 1992. Today, the Buchwald agency, now simply known as Buchwald, boasts around 130 employees and represents a diverse array of clients from various sectors of media and entertainment across the country.

Buchwald’s contributions to the industry are remembered fondly, and his agency’s continued success stands as a testament to his vision and dedication. His daughter, Julia Buchwald, who now leads the agency’s West Coast office, has vowed to uphold the high standards her father set and to ensure that the agency continues to thrive.

Surviving Don Buchwald are his wife Maggie, with whom he shared nearly six decades of marriage, and his daughters Julia and Laura. His passing leaves a notable void in the entertainment world, but his influence and the agency’s continued prominence are a lasting tribute to his remarkable career.
