The Geelong Football Club is excited to announce Grant McCabe as its new President. Grant will assume this role following the annual general meeting in December, succeeding Craig Drummond, who has served on the Board for 13 years and recently announced his decision to step down. Grant, a director of the club since 2019, has been instrumental in the integration of women’s football into the club and the wider Geelong community, notably leading the successful bid for an AFLW license.
Hailing from Geelong, Grant’s deep connection to the region is evident through his upbringing and education at local institutions. With degrees from RMIT and Melbourne University, he brings a wealth of expertise as the Managing Partner of Boston Consulting Group, Australia and New Zealand. His extensive industry knowledge, coupled with his role as the independent chair of the AFL Industry Governance Committee for Player Development, underscores his suitability for leading the club into its next chapter.
Craig Drummond, the outgoing president, expressed his confidence in Grant’s capabilities, highlighting his significant contributions to the club’s strategic decisions. Grant’s appointment marks a pivotal moment for the Geelong Football Club as it strives to achieve a membership milestone of 100,000 by 2025.
In accepting the position, Grant expressed his gratitude and excitement, emphasizing his lifelong dedication to the club and his optimism for its future. He acknowledged the collective passion and commitment of everyone involved, from the board and executive team to players, staff, members, volunteers, partners, and the wider Geelong community.
Craig Drummond will continue in his role until the end of the year, ensuring a smooth transition period. As the Geelong Football Club looks ahead, it does so with renewed vigor under the leadership of Grant McCabe, poised to embrace the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead.
