Luke Daniels, a goalkeeper who began his professional journey with West Bromwich Albion, has announced his retirement from football after a remarkable 20-year career. Starting his path at Manchester United and then moving to West Brom in 2004, Daniels signed his first professional contract in 2006 and went on to experience a diverse career across several clubs.

Daniels, a lifelong Bolton Wanderers supporter, spent significant loan spells at clubs like Motherwell, Shrewsbury Town, Tranmere Rovers, and others during his tenure at West Brom. In 2014, he departed for Scunthorpe United where he served as the primary goalkeeper for two-and-a-half seasons before joining Brentford in 2017. His time at Brentford saw him make 36 appearances, later transitioning to a backup role.

Moving to Middlesbrough in 2021 marked another chapter in Daniels’ career, where he made 12 appearances before his departure in 2023. His final stint at Forest Green Rovers concluded with 20 appearances, despite their relegation from the Football League.

Reflecting on his retirement, Daniels expressed gratitude for having lived his dream and cherished the friendships and experiences gained throughout his career. His decision to retire follows his release from Forest Green Rovers this summer, signaling a transition to new endeavors beyond professional football.

Luke Daniels’ retirement marks the end of an era for the seasoned goalkeeper, whose journey from Manchester United to various clubs including West Bromwich Albion has left an indelible mark on English football.
