Essendon man signs for two more
Archie Perkins extends his contract for another two years.
Archie Perkins has signed a new contract with the Bombers, committing to the team for at least the next two years. With 71 games under his belt, Perkins has been a regular in the Bombers’ lineup for the past four years.
Perkins’ versatility and strength in contests are significant characteristics for the 22-year-old, who plays in the midfield and front line.
Perkins expressed excitement about his future in red and black. “I enjoy being a member of this group.
“I believe we are moving in the right direction, and I am very excited about where we are going,” Perkin added.
“I’m enjoying the trip we’re on and am keen to improve as a player so that I can be a valuable contributor to the team.
“I’m so impressed and proud of the way everyone is attacking the season and can’t wait to get out there again this weekend.”
Perkins dominated the first round against Hawthorn, recording a career-high 24 disposals, 12 tackles, eight clearances, and two goals.
Since then, he has maintained his outstanding form, averaging 18.7 disposals, 10.6 kicks, and 4.6 tackles per game through his first nine games in 2024.
Perkins, a Sandringham Dragons product who joined the Bombers with Pick No.9 in the 2020 AFL National Draft, sparked excitement among Bomber fans.
Perkins was selected a Round 17 NAB Rising Star nominee in his debut season, and later that year, he was named Essendon’s 2021 Lindsay Griffiths Rising Star.
Daniel McPherson, General Manager – AFL, said the team was happy to have Perkins commit for at least the next two years.
“Archie has become a key part of our side over the past four seasons and his growth this year has further cemented his importance for the future,” McPherson stated.
“He has played a different position this year, spending more time in the midfield and during games.
Archie is a motivated and driven individual who is willing to take on any task, as evidenced by his statistics this year.
“We look forward to seeing where Archie can take his footy over the coming years and will be a key pillar of our side for years to come.”
