Aaron Judge Returns to Yankees Lineup Against Orioles After Hand Injury

Aaron Judge has made a swift return to the New York Yankees’ lineup, facing the Baltimore Orioles just two days after being struck on the left hand by a pitch. The Yankees’ manager, Aaron Boone, confirmed Judge’s comeback, explaining that Judge underwent treatment, hit in the batting cage, and then gave a positive update on his condition.

Judge missed the game on Wednesday, during which the Yankees lost 7-6 in extra innings. The injury occurred during Tuesday’s 4-2 victory over the Orioles, when a 94.1 mph fastball from pitcher Albert Suárez hit Judge’s hand. Judge exited the game shortly after being hit. Fortunately, X-rays and a CT scan showed no fractures, though there was some swelling and discomfort.

Boone emphasized the importance of Judge’s presence on the team, not just for his exceptional playing abilities but also for his leadership as team captain. “It’s definitely a relief to have him back,” Boone noted. “The guys really rally around him.”

Judge is currently batting .302 and leads the major leagues with 26 home runs and 64 RBIs. The 32-year-old outfielder is a five-time All-Star and was named the 2022 American League MVP after hitting 62 home runs, breaking Roger Maris’s longstanding record of 61 set in 1961.

In 2018, Judge experienced a similar incident when he missed 45 games due to a broken right wrist from being hit by a pitch from Kansas City’s Jakob Junis. Despite these setbacks, Judge continues to be a pivotal player for the Yankees, and his quick return is a positive sign for the team as they proceed with the season.
