Wigan Warriors Decide Against Appealing Suspensions for Keighran and Dupree
In a recent development, the Wigan Warriors have chosen not to challenge the suspensions of Adam Keighran and Tyler Dupree. This decision means both players will miss the highly anticipated Challenge Cup final against Warrington Wolves this weekend.
Keighran and Dupree each received three-match bans that exclude them from the final at Wembley Stadium. Initially, Wigan’s coach, Matt Peet, expressed uncertainty about whether the club would appeal the suspensions, indicating he would consult with others before making a decision. Peet acknowledged the risks involved in the team’s selections, noting the unpredictable nature of weekly match decisions, especially leading up to such a crucial game.
On Tuesday morning, Wigan confirmed they would not contest the suspensions, thus no tribunal hearings were scheduled for the evening. Keighran’s suspension came after a dangerous tackle on Warrington’s Arron Lindop, which resulted in a red card during their previous match. Dupree was also sidelined for three games following a headbutt incident involving Warrington hooker Sam Powell.
Accepting the sanctions, Wigan Warriors will now face the challenge of competing in the final without two key players. This situation underscores the complexities and strategic considerations that teams must navigate in high-stakes tournaments.
With these suspensions in place, Wigan’s focus will likely shift to adjusting their strategy and lineup to compensate for the absence of Keighran and Dupree, ensuring they remain competitive in the upcoming Challenge Cup final.
