Kylian Mbappe has officially announced his departure from Paris Saint-Germain on social media, confirming what many already suspected. The 25-year-old is set to fulfill his childhood dream by joining Real Madrid, a move that has been anticipated for some time. His addition will further strengthen an already impressive squad featuring talents like Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Jr, and Toni Kroos, with the soon-to-be addition of Brazilian rising star Endrick.
During his seven-year tenure at PSG, having joined as a promising 18-year-old from Monaco, Mbappe amassed an impressive record, securing six league titles and scoring over 250 goals. Despite his prolific contributions, he fell short of capturing the Champions League, notably experiencing defeat in the 2020 final against Bayern Munich.
In his announcement, Mbappe reflected on his time at the club, stating, “I’ve always said that I would speak with you when the time comes, and so I wanted to announce to you all that it’s my last year at Paris Saint-Germain. I will not extend my contract, and the journey will conclude in a few weeks. I will play my final match at the Parc des Princes on Sunday. It’s filled with emotions, as I’ve had the privilege and honor to represent the biggest French club for many years. It’s been an incredible journey, allowing me to develop as a player under immense pressure, alongside some of the sport’s legends. I’ve met many people and matured as a person, experiencing both triumphs and setbacks.
Mbappe will embark on his first foreign adventure in his football career with his move to Madrid.
Reflecting on his departure, he expressed, “I never anticipated how challenging it would be to leave my homeland. Ligue 1 has been my familiar ground, but after seven years, I feel the need for a new challenge. It’s tough, and there are certain individuals I want to express my gratitude to, especially the fans.”
Acknowledging his reserved demeanor on the field, he added, “I might not be the most expressive player, and I haven’t always reciprocated the love you’ve shown me over the past seven years, but I’ve never intended to deceive. My aim has always been to deliver results. PSG is a club that evokes strong emotions; you either love it or loathe it. I chose to love it, and I’ve cherished every moment of my seven-year journey with this esteemed club. It’s an experience I’ll carry with me for a lifetime.”
As PSG, already crowned French champions, prepare for their upcoming fixtures, Mbappe’s final match as a PSG player will be the French Cup final against Lyon on Saturday, May 25th.
