Cardiff City

3 perfect PL loan signings on Cardiff City radar

on

Cardiff City will seek to improve on this season’s Championship top-half position, which will necessitate some significant summer additions.

The Bluebirds finished 12th in the league. This was an improvement over the previous season, but it was disappointing given that the team was in contention for the top six in the early part of the season.

To build on their successful season under Erol Bulut, the South Wales club will need to make a lot of acquisitions to bolster the squad enough for a sustained drive for the play-offs.

With money limited, the club will most likely need to make more loan acquisitions to help fill gaps in the roster. They should turn to the Premier League to get these players, since they have three choices for the next transfer window.

Liam Delap

Man City

Following an outstanding loan spell at Hull City this season, Cardiff would be wise to sign Manchester City’s Liam Delap on a season-long loan deal. It is unclear what Hull’s own recruitment plans are following the resignation of Liam Rosenier as manager.

Delap’s dismissal came despite an excellent season in which he scored eight goals to help the club finish seventh in the table.

He would undoubtedly improve a dismal Cardiff attack. Fans witnessed the Bluebirds score 53 goals in the league this season, the fewest of any club in the top half. Despite being the club’s leading scorer, Jaden Philogene only scored six goals, which is less than Delap did at Hull. By providing Delap the opportunity to lead the line as the main man once more, the Bluebirds can help get the best out of the Manchester City striker while also enhancing their own attack. The elephant in the room is, of course, the £10 million cost Man City supposedly paid for the striker, which will be triggered somewhere else.

Harry Souttar
Leicester City

The defender battled for game time at Leicester City in the Championship, so it’s difficult to imagine him being trusted in the heart of the defence in the Premier League next season. His alleged £40,000 per week salary may put off some clubs interested in signing him on a permanent basis, so a season-long move to Cardiff may be beneficial for all sides.

Souttar would benefit from regular football, just as Nat Phillips did this season on loan from Liverpool. A return to form could entice clubs to pay a transfer price for his services, which appears improbable given only three league appearances in the previous season. At Stoke, he demonstrated his Championship abilities.

Souttar was among the Championship’s top players in terms of tackles won, duels won, and aerial duels won, and his superb passing accuracy could help the Bluebirds build out from the back if he joins the club on loan this summer.

Phillips was a key defender for the team in the second part of the season. Replacing him with Souttar would be a positive move, maybe helping Erol Bulut’s team finish in the top six next year.

Dane Scarlett

Tottenham

While risky, signing Dane Scarlett could be a low-cost method for Bulut to add additional goals to his team. The Tottenham Hotspur striker spent the first half of the season on loan at Ipswich Town, but he was recalled at Christmas after struggling for playing time.

However, he demonstrated talent while on loan at Portsmouth last year. At the age of 18, he scored four goals in League One for Pompey, demonstrating his ability to find the net if given the opportunity.

With an extra year of experience and more cameo appearances for Spurs, Cardiff may provide Scarlett with guaranteed game time and the opportunity to improve as a striker in the Championship.

While the teenage attacker will be a risk, he is highly regarded by Spurs and might pay off handsomely if he finds his form at Cardiff City Stadium. Now 20 years old, it could be the ideal time for Cardiff to sign the striker on loan this summer.
