
Sad News: NHRA Drag Racing Top Driver Confirmed Dead in Fatal Accident
The National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) community is mourning the loss of one of its brightest stars, Randy Alexander, a Top Sportsman driver from Harvest, Alabama. Alexander tragically lost his life following a high-speed crash during the Southern Nationals at Atlanta Dragway in Commerce, Georgia.
The Incident
The accident occurred during the first round of eliminations in the Top Sportsman class. Alexander, piloting a Wilkerson Racing Engines ’63 Corvette, crossed the finish line at approximately 160 mph. Moments later, his car veered sharply left into the path of opponent Bob Mandell, who was traveling at nearly 203 mph. Mandell’s vehicle collided with Alexander’s, causing Alexander’s car to flip and land on the guard wall approximately 100-150 feet into the shutdown area. Mandell was able to exit his vehicle unscathed and later expressed his relief, stating, “I’m 100 percent OK.”
