Wigan Warriors head coach Matt Peet has provided an update on the injuries sustained by Kruise Leeming and Jake Wardle during their 36-0 win over the London Broncos.
Leeming, a hooker, played around 25 minutes before an ankle injury forced him off the field early in the second half. The injury occurred after a tackle by London forward Emmanuel Waine, who was sin-binned for the incident. Peet noted there was no malicious intent in the challenge but acknowledged the severity of Leeming’s injury.
Wardle, a centre, also exited the game in the final minutes after rolling his ankle, a recurrence of previous issues he has had with the joint. Peet expressed hope that Wardle’s injury is not severe.
With Super League taking a break for the international fixtures, Wigan plans to use this time for rest and recovery. Peet emphasized the importance of this period for the team, who recently won the Challenge Cup, to rejuvenate before resuming the intense schedule leading up to October.
Peet stated, “We’ll rest, we’ll take some time off: all of us, players and staff. It’s been an intense year so far and the players deliver so it’s important when you get a chance just to let them refresh and rejuvenate and take some time off, to commit to their families away from here and then when they come back in it’ll be all systems go.”
Wigan’s next match is scheduled for July 5 against Leigh.
