With another NFL Draft season concluded, West Virginia football alumnus Zach Frazier has proudly joined the ranks of over 200 former Mountaineers in the league. Frazier’s name was announced in the second round of the 2024 Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers, marking a significant milestone in his career.
Despite Frazier being the sole Mountaineer drafted this spring, a few others have secured undrafted free agent contracts. Over the past four years, only three players from WVU have been drafted, with the last instance of multiple selections occurring in 2020. Looking ahead, we examine which WVU players might potentially join the list of draftees in 2025.
In other Mountaineer news, the West Virginia golf team is gearing up for a rare NCAA Championship appearance. This marks only the second time in nine years since the program’s revival and the third time in its history that they will compete at this level. The team was thrilled to learn of their selection nearly two weeks ago, earning a No. 10 seed in the Rancho Santa Fe Regional.
The regional competition will be held from May 13th to May 15th at The Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe, California, near San Diego. The Mountaineers, who practiced on the course this past Sunday, will compete in a three-day, 54-hole stroke play tournament. The top five teams and the lowest-scoring individual not on those teams will advance to the NCAA Championship Final.
Representing WVU at the regional event are senior Jackson Davenport, juniors Todd Duncan, Max Green, and Pierce Grieve, along with sophomore Kaleb Wilson. Freshman Harrison Thompson will be on standby as an alternate. WVU’s first round of play, paired with Kansas and Wright State, begins Monday at 12:25 p.m. EST on the 10th tee, with pairings re-adjusted based on scores after each round.
This marks a significant moment for both WVU football and golf, showcasing the athletic talent and dedication within the Mountaineer community. Whether on the football field or the golf course, West Virginia continues to make its mark on the national stage.
