Erik ten Hag Warns Tottenham and Fulham: Scott McTominay is Staying Put

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has issued a blunt warning to potential suitors Tottenham Hotspur and Fulham: midfielder Scott McTominay is not for sale. Amid rising interest from several clubs, Ten Hag has made it clear that the Scotland international remains a crucial part of his plans for the upcoming season.

Tottenham’s Midfield Search

LondonWorld reports that Tottenham is eyeing McTominay as a potential addition to their midfield, alongside Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher and Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze. The 27-year-old McTominay, who was the subject of a failed bid from West Ham last summer, has also caught the attention of Fulham. The Cottagers are in search of a replacement for Joao Palhinha, who recently joined Bayern Munich.

McTominay’s Impactful Season

Last season, McTominay made a significant impact for Manchester United. Starting 27 matches, he became the joint-third-highest scorer for the Red Devils, netting 10 goals. His shift to a more advanced role allowed him to add a scoring dimension to his game, outscoring notable teammates like Marcus Rashford and Christian Eriksen.

McTominay’s influence extended beyond club football. He played a pivotal role for Scotland, contributing seven goals as his national team secured qualification for the Euros in Germany. His performances have naturally attracted interest, but Ten Hag is adamant about retaining the midfielder.

Ten Hag’s Firm Stance

When questioned about McTominay’s future, Ten Hag acknowledged the interest from other clubs but emphasized the player’s importance to United. “We have very good players, so there will always be interest from other clubs. When you score 10 goals in a season and also perform very well for Scotland, then there will be interest,” Ten Hag stated. “But we want to keep him because he is a very important player for our squad. What he can contribute, as we saw last season once we had our sixes available, is that he could play in a more advanced role, and he is a highly interesting player for our team.”

Tottenham’s Transfer Needs

Tottenham’s pursuit of a new midfielder comes in the wake of losing Pierre-Emile Højbjerg to Marseille. Additionally, Bryan Gil has been left in North London while the first team heads to Asia for their pre-season games. These moves suggest that Spurs are actively seeking to bolster their midfield options ahead of the new season.

With Manchester United’s firm stance on McTominay, Tottenham and Fulham will need to look elsewhere to strengthen their squads. McTominay’s versatility and proven track record make him a valuable asset for United, and Ten Hag’s determination to keep him underscores his significance to the team. As the transfer window progresses, it remains to be seen how Tottenham and Fulham will respond to this setback in their transfer plans.
