Rotherham United could soon acquire another two players to join Jonson Clarke-Harris, who came on Wednesday.
Speaking to Radio Sheffield, Millers Manager Steve Evans stated that Chairman Tony Stewart had agreed deals for two players, who will most likely arrive early next week depending on their medical results.
‘It’s a major change this year,’ the Millers Boss stated, comparing it to past years. We have a significant concentration in the medical area, and we don’t want to sign guys who may not play much football.
‘We are doing things in the same way as the Premier League and the top teams in the Championship do, and the players will be over on Monday or Tuesday for their scans, and if we get the green light, we will be ready to sign.
‘There has never been an issue with turning to our Chairman or Board of Directors for support. Our Chairman told me to go out and construct a side capable of competing at the top of League One.
“But we have to give value for money, we have to make sure the players we are paying good sums for are actually on the pitch, and we don’t have fourteen or so players.”
‘We know how difficult this league will be; we are not mistaken; there are a lot of good clubs in League One, and it will be a difficult task, and if we do not prepare well, we will fail. So, as the Chairman says, ‘let’s prepare well,’ which is exactly what we’re doing.
It appears that Steve Evans is keeping the ship stable. Eight weeks ago, I was wondering how we were going to do in League One; I couldn’t see any focus at the club, and none of the players we had looked like they could play in that tier of football. No one at the club said anything that made me feel confident.
When Steve Evans returned, I was as astonished as everyone else and immediately remembered the old saying ‘never go back’. But he’s always talked a nice game, and we know he doesn’t take idiots lightly, and he’s made me want to see the Millers next season instead of just going because I’ve always done so. In fact, I am looking forward to it.
