Sheffield Wednesday, Barnsley and Leeds United players are among the front-runners to join Rotherham United this summer.
The Rotherham reconstruction has already begun following the club’s relegation to League One. A lot of business has already been done, with the Millers working rapidly to give new manager Steve Evans the squad he wants.
Five players have already joined the squad, with Sean Raggett, a former Millers loanee, the most recent addition. He accompanied his former Portsmouth colleague Joe Rafferty to the New York Stadium.
With Rotherham clearly on a recruitment campaign, Business2Community has identified the players who are most likely to join the Millers.
George Byers – 5/4
The midfielder was a popular character at Sheffield Wednesday, but he dropped down the pecking order under Danny Rohl.
He finished the 2023/24 season on loan with Blackpool and has since been released by the Owls.
He’s been connected with Rotherham, but sources suggest the Millers aren’t the only ones interested.
Jordan Williams – 2/1
Barnsley have confirmed Williams will leave Oakwell as a free agent this summer. The defender is only 24 years old, but he already has extensive experience in League One.
Louie Sibley – 5/2
The versatile Sibley, who graduated from Derby County’s youth, is no longer under contract with his hometown club. Derby are in talks with the midfielder about a new contract, but if an agreement is not reached, other clubs may step in.
Joe Wildsmith – 4/1
Last season, Wildsmith was perhaps the greatest goalkeeper in League One, and he helped Derby County secure promotion to the Championship. He will leave Pride Park as a free agent this summer.
Liam Kelly – 5/1
Kelly, a seasoned midfield stalwart, has been released by Coventry City and is eligible to sign as a free agent.
Daniel Iversen – 8/1
The goalkeeper is a familiar face at the New York Stadium, having spent the 2019/20 season on loan with Rotherham. At the age of 26, he remains on Leicester City’s roster.
Jamie Shackleton – 8/1
Shackleton, a versatile and tough midfielder, could be a valuable addition to any League One club. He’s been a bit-part player for Leeds United this season, making only seven league starts.
Shane Flynn – 10/1
The 22-year-old Leicester City defender may be ready to leave the club and seek regular play elsewhere.
