Sunderland’s competitors in the Championship, Cardiff City, have initiated legal action against French club Nantes. Cardiff City lodged a formal complaint in a French court, asserting losses exceeding £100m stemming from a disagreement related to the unfortunate passing of Emiliano Sala in a plane accident in January 2019.

Following an “extensive examination” conducted by a legal specialist, the attorney for the Welsh club, Celine Jones, disclosed an estimated amount of 120.2 million euros (£104 million). Nantes has until September 23 to provide a response, as stated by Jones, who also mentioned that the analysis has been submitted to the Nantes Commercial Court in western France.

Lawyers Jerome Marsaudon and Louis-Marie Absil, representing Nantes, stated, “We’ll take the time to study these new voluminous documents and these figures.”
