Seattle Storm Signs Veteran Guard Erica Wheeler
Seattle, WA – The Seattle Storm has officially signed experienced guard Erica Wheeler. As per team policy, contract details remain undisclosed.
Wheeler, who played the past two seasons with the Indiana Fever, averaged 20.4 minutes per game. During the 2023 and 2024 seasons, she recorded 8.5 points, 3.4 assists, and a 40.4% field goal percentage. On June 7, 2024, she hit a major milestone, scoring her 2,500th career point—becoming just the fourth undrafted player to achieve this feat. Over her career, she has played in 297 regular-season games and, in 2023, reached 1,000 career assists, joining Becky Hammon as the only undrafted players to hit that mark.
“Erica’s ability to create plays and contribute offensively is a tremendous asset for our team,” said Storm Head Coach Noelle Quinn. “She’s a dedicated competitor and a great teammate. We’re excited to welcome her to Seattle.”
Wheeler started her WNBA journey in 2015 with the Atlanta Dream, appearing in 17 games and averaging 4.5 points while shooting 45.7% from the field. She also had a brief stint with the New York Liberty before joining the Indiana Fever from 2016 to 2019, where she played in every regular-season game, averaging 9.5 points and 4 assists. She led the Fever in assists in 2017 and was second in total scoring. In 2019, she made history as the first undrafted player to win All-Star MVP.
In 2021, Wheeler played for the Los Angeles Sparks alongside current Storm teammate Nneka Ogwumike, posting career-best averages of 13.6 points and 4.8 assists. She then joined the Atlanta Dream in 2022, averaging 8.4 points, 3.9 assists, and 3.1 rebounds.
“Seattle is one of the most respected franchises in the league, and I’m thrilled to compete alongside players like Nneka, Alysha, Skylar, and Gabby,” said Wheeler. “I can’t wait to get started.”
Currently, Wheeler plays for Nesibe Aydin GSK in Turkey’s Women’s Basketball Super League. In 14 games this season, she has averaged 14.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 6.7 assists, recording three double-doubles.
