According to a statement on the club’s website, Siju Odelusi has joined Sutton United from Aveley FC in the National League South.
The 25-year-old has signed a one-year contract with the option to extend it for another year.
Odelusi began his career in the West Ham United academy system before moving to non-league team Tilbury, where he took his first steps into senior football.
He formerly attended Witham, Leiston, Hayes & Yeading, Northwood, Westfield, and Haringey before joining Aveley in 2022.
In his first season at Aveley, he helped the club gain promotion to the National League South, and the following season, he helped the side reach the National League South playoffs, playing a significant role and helping them finish seventh on their return to the division, earning a spot on the National League South Team of the Season.
Where Does Odelusi Fit At Sutton?
Odelusi has primarily played as a defensive midfielder this season, although his versatility allows him to play as a box-to-box midfielder, offensive midfielder, or even out wide. He has frequently played in a two-man midfield, which Sutton has chosen in a 4-2-3-1 configuration since the appointment of manager Steve Morrison.
Odelusi’s dependability is one of his finest attributes, as evidenced by his 52 appearances for Aveley last season. In addition, despite playing a more defensive role, he has found himself in excellent scoring form this season, scoring 17 goals and finishing as Aveley’s leading scorer.
Is He Ready For The Step Up?
Odelusi was one of the top midfielders in the sixth tier last season. His effort rate, combined with his exceptional game reading, makes him an extremely effective midfielder.
Odelusi appears to be more than ready for the step up to the National League, having scored goals and being named to the Team of the Season. He has the potential to be a vital player for Sutton this season.
