Sum 41’s Frontman Reveals the Story Behind the Unlikely Friendship Between McCaslin and the Phoenix Suns’ Star Guard
Los Angeles, CA – In a recent interview, Sum 41’s frontman Deryck Whibley opened up about the unlikely friendship between the band’s bassist Jason “Cone” McCaslin and Elis Okobo, the star guard of the Phoenix Suns.
“Jason and Elis actually met through a mutual friend,” Whibley explained. “They started talking and realized they had a lot in common, despite being from different worlds. They’ve been close friends ever since.”
Whibley revealed that McCaslin and Okobo often keep in touch through text messages and phone calls, discussing everything from music and basketball to their personal lives.
“Jason’s always been a huge basketball fan, so it’s no surprise he hit it off with Elis,” Whibley said. “But what’s really cool is how much they’ve learned from each other. Jason’s taught Elis about the music industry, while Elis has schooled Jason on the world of professional basketball.”
The friendship between McCaslin and Okobo has even led to some exciting collaborations, with Okobo attending several Sum 41 shows and McCaslin cheering him on at Phoenix Suns games.
“It’s been amazing to see their friendship grow,” Whibley said. “They’re proof that music and sports can bring people together in incredible ways.”
