Stephen Robinson has shared his surprise at James Bolton’s decision to leave St Mirren for Fleetwood Town, citing family reasons. The English defender’s quick departure prompted a swift negotiation resulting in a significant transfer fee for St Mirren.
Robinson expressed disappointment at losing Bolton, whom he had expected to be part of the squad for the upcoming season. He assured fans that efforts are underway to secure a replacement, with plans to finalize a new signing by early next week.
“It was unexpected,” Robinson admitted. “James made it clear he needed to be closer to home for family reasons, and we respect his decision.”
The manager emphasized the need for unity within the team, stating, “I want players fully committed to pushing the club forward. If everyone isn’t aligned, it disrupts our goals.”
Regarding Bolton’s exit and subsequent transfer plans, Robinson noted, “We’re actively speaking with several players and aim to finalize a deal by early next week.”
During a recent pre-season match against Dunfermline, Robinson gave playing time to new signings Ellery Balcombe, Oisin Smyth, Shaun Rooney, and Roland Idowu, highlighting their contributions despite limited game time in recent months.
