Sheffield Wednesday is poised to secure one of their January transfer targets without any cost, as his current contract is set to expire next month.
The Owls had a successful January transfer window, which played a crucial role in maintaining their Championship status for another season. Key loan acquisitions such as James Beadle, Ike Ugbo, and Ian Poveda proved instrumental, and the club is now keen to have them back at Hillsborough for the upcoming season.
Head coach Danny Rohl is particularly interested in bringing Ike Ugbo back, especially given the current shortage in attacking options. With Josh Windass out of contract and drawing interest from other Championship clubs, Lee Gregory departing as a free agent, and Ashley Fletcher’s loan period concluding, the team’s striker lineup is significantly diminished.
As of now, Michael Smith, Bailey Cadamarteri, and Mallik Wilks are the only forwards under Rohl’s command heading into the summer. This limited pool of strikers underscores the need for reinforcements to bolster the squad’s offensive capabilities.
Another striker, Duncan McGuire, remains on Sheffield Wednesday’s radar. Additionally, a forward they had shown interest in during January is now available on a free transfer, presenting a valuable opportunity for the club to strengthen their roster without financial outlay.
