British authorities are reviewing evidence against comedian and actor Russell Brand regarding past sexual assault allegations. The Crown Prosecution Service confirmed that they have received a file from the Metropolitan Police to determine if charges should be filed.
Brand, 49, has been interviewed three times by detectives investigating these historical offenses. Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, leading the inquiry, emphasized the commitment to support the women involved and to thoroughly investigate all allegations, regardless of when they occurred.
The allegations emerged in September 2023 when several media outlets reported claims from four women who accused Brand of sexual assault and rape during the peak of his career from 2006 to 2013. One accuser recounted an incident at the BBC’s Los Angeles office, stating Brand laughed about it during his radio show shortly afterward. The identities of the women remain undisclosed.
Brand has publicly denied the allegations, asserting that all his relationships were consensual. Once known for his provocative comedy, he has hosted various radio and TV shows, authored books detailing his struggles with addiction, and starred in multiple films, including “Get Him To The Greek.” He was briefly married to singer Katy Perry from 2010 to 2012.
Though Brand has stepped back from mainstream media in recent years, he has garnered a significant online following with content blending wellness and conspiracy theories. In a recent interview, YouTube CEO Neal Mohan defended the platform’s decision to suspend monetization of Brand’s channel, referencing the potential impact of off-platform behavior on the wider creator community.
The investigation into Brand continues as authorities consider the evidence
