Cristiano Ronaldo has been told that he would be welcomed back at Manchester United as Ruben Amorim prepares to take over as the new manager. The Portugal international, who has had two stints with United (2003-2009 and 2021-2022), is nearing the end of his playing career at Al Nassr, and former Manchester United star Teddy Sheringham believes Amorim would gladly have Ronaldo back in some capacity.
Despite the complicated ending to Ronaldo’s second spell at Old Trafford, which included falling out with former manager Erik ten Hag, Sheringham is confident that the 39-year-old would be accepted back at the club under Amorim’s leadership. Sheringham explained to Flash Score, as reported by Goal, that while Ronaldo would be welcome, he sees the forward following in the footsteps of David Beckham and moving into high-profile ventures outside of coaching in the future.
Ronaldo’s return to United in 2021 was marred by tension with the club’s management. His relationship with interim boss Ralf Rangnick was strained, and after an explosive interview with Piers Morgan, Ronaldo revealed that he felt betrayed by both Rangnick and Ten Hag. His time with United ended without a trophy, marking the first season since 2010 that Ronaldo had gone without silverware.
The forward had initially hoped for a move to a club competing in the Champions League, but after United’s disappointing season, Ronaldo joined Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia with a lucrative contract worth €200 million per year. Now, Ronaldo is focusing on reaching a significant milestone in his career—1,000 goals. He currently has over 900 goals and has netted more than 70 for Al Nassr since his move.
As Ruben Amorim gears up to take the reins at Manchester United, Ronaldo’s future with the club remains a topic of discussion. Amorim is set to begin his tenure on November 11, with current interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy overseeing the team’s next few matches, including a Europa League game against PAOK and a Premier League match against Leicester.
While coaching may be a possibility for Ronaldo in the future, his immediate goal is to continue adding to his remarkable goal tally as he approaches the milestone of 1,000 ca
reer goals.
