One Manchester City player, according to Paul Dickov, has outperformed every other player in the Premier League this year. Depending on how both their remaining games of the season and Arsenal’s play go, the Manchester club might win another Premier League title in the following days.
The Blues would become the first team in history to win four Premier League titles in a row if they were to win the championship again. One analyst and former City player praised a specific member of Pep Guardiola’s squad and what he has accomplished for the team this season prior to today’s away game at Fulham.
According to Dickov, Phil Foden has been the Premier League’s finest player.
He said: “In the last couple of seasons, and I say this a lot, his levels have always been really high, but because he is in a team with Kevin De Bruynes and Erling Haalands, they seem to get a lot of the adulation, he goes under the radar a little bit, but this season he has been brilliant, especially when Kevin De Bruyne was out and Erling Haaland missed 10 games.
“He is still a young boy at 23. He took the mantle of being the best player, and he has been absolutely brilliant. He keeps getting better and better.
“He is a superstar already, and to think he is only 23 years of age, the ceilings he is hitting are ridiculous.
“For England in the summer, I hope he plays him in the middle. I hope Gareth [Southgate] plays him in the middle because, without a doubt, that’s his best position, and to try to fit him in, is a problem that Gareth’s going to have.
There is so much competition in there, but, as you say, for me, he has been the best player in the league this season.”
Dickov is correct to commend Foden.
Before the match against Fulham, Foden had played in 32 league games this season and had tallied 16 goals and eight assists, which surpassed his total from any previous league campaign at City. With his strong season rating of 7.51/10 from WhoScored, Foden is now the fifth-highest rated player in the division based on his overall performances. The midfield player was nominated for Player of the Season in the Premier League and earned the Football Writers’ Association’s Men’s Player of the Year award last week.
