Fighters Derrick Lewis and Rodrigo Nascimento make weight for the 12-fight program in the UFC on ESPN 56 main event. Not much of a weight difference will occur since both guys were close to the 266-pound limit. All of the combatants made weight, with the exception of Jared Gooden, who was forced to withdraw from his welterweight match against Kevin Jousset due to a medical condition.
This is “The Black Beast’s” twelfth major event in the UFC. Lewis, however, has been having trouble lately and is at 1-4. Between defeats to Tai Tuivasa, Jailton Almeida, Sergey Spivak, and Sergei Pavlovich lies a victory against Marcos Rogerio de Lima. Lewis (27-12, 1 NC) will try to demonstrate that, despite being 39 years old and weighing an official 264 pounds, he still has it.
Meanwhile, Nascimento (11-1, 1 NC) is competing in his debut UFC main event. “Yogi Bear” has defeated Tanner Boser, Ilir Latifi, and Don’Tale Mayes in three straight fights. Lewis is a 265-pound heavyweight who may try to showcase his submission skills, but all of those victories came by decision.
The complete UFC on ESPN 56 broadcast will be available on ESPN and ESPN+. The main card gets underway at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT, with preliminary action starting at 4 p.m. ET/1 p.m. PT.
