The outfielder for Boston describes what transpired.
The Boston Red Sox were defeated 6-3 on Saturday by the Milwaukee Brewers thanks to a two-run double by Joey Ortiz to end a five-run third inning. However, Tyler O’Neill’s early departure from the game may have been the more interesting development for Red Sox supporters.
According to Christopher Smith of MassLive, Tyler O’Neill gave an explanation for his knee soreness after the game, saying, “I’ve been grinding through it for a little bit. I really felt it when I took that final stroke, almost like I was breaking out of the box. I had the impression that my cleat was trapped in the batter’s box there. Thus, it didn’t feel all that nice.
The Boston outfielder explains what happened.
Joey Ortiz’s two-run double to cap a five-run third inning helped the Milwaukee Brewers defeat the Boston Red Sox 6-3 on Saturday. For Red Sox fans, though, Tyler O’Neill’s early exit from the game could have been the more intriguing development.
After the game, Tyler O’Neill explained why his knee hurt, according to Christopher Smith of MassLive: “I’ve been grinding through it for a little bit.” When I executed that last blow, I truly felt as like I was breaking free. There, it felt like my cleat was stuck in the batter’s box. It didn’t feel very pleasant as a result.
Tyler O’Neill just one of multiple Red Sox players to battle injuries
The injury bug is still plaguing the Red Sox. Aside from O’Neill’s problems, Devers has also been dealing with a knee injury for Boston over the past few weeks. That follows Devers having to cope with a shoulder problem earlier in the month.
This season, pitchers Brayan Bello and Nick Pavetta have both been placed on the injured list. Furthermore, Garrett Whitlock declared that internal bracing will be necessary for his elbow injury. This implies that he will not be eligible to throw for the Red Sox again until the 2025 season, ending his 2024 campaign.
Whitlock joins starting pitcher Lucas Giolito on the sidelines. Giolito’s season came to an end in spring training when he underwent surgery in spring training on his elbow. He had the same internal bracing that Whitlock is scheduled to receive.
Finally, shortstop Trevor Story was diagnosed with a fractured glenoid, signaling an end to his season. The 31-year-old recently underwent shoulder surgery in Los Angeles, according to an announcement by the team.’
The Red Sox are 26-26 heading into Saturday’s play, but despite all of their injury woes, they have managed to play.500 baseball. Boston still has a chance to compete for a postseason spot even with Giolito, Whitlock, and Story out for the entire season if the rest of the team stays healthy and players like O’Neill go back to hitting.
