Raleigh police said Sunday that they are investigating two gunshots, one fatal, that occurred about an hour apart near North Carolina State University’s McKimmon Center.
Each incident resulted in a male victim being transported to the hospital with critical injuries. The first occurred around 11:49 p.m. on Saturday, at the intersection of Sherman Avenue and Clanton Street.
Joris Cooper, 22, was shot and later died from his injuries; his death is being investigated as a homicide, authorities said Sunday afternoon.
near 12:50 a.m. on Sunday, Raleigh police responded to the second shooting near Sherman Avenue and Gorman Street, a two-block away intersection.
Police first stated that the gunshot occurred around 1:50 a.m. Sherman Avenue is parallel to Western Boulevard, a major avenue with restaurants and retail businesses.
In a news release, police stated that “it is unknown if the two incidents are related.”
North Carolina State Police are aiding with the investigation into both incidents.
