on

Cambridge residents are on high alert following a series of burglaries that have occurred across the city and neighboring areas like Ely and Gamblingay. Authorities are urging homeowners to take proactive steps to enhance their home security in light of these incidents.

Police have provided the following advice for residents to follow when they’re away from home:

– Ensure all doors are securely locked, and if possible, double-lock them.

– Secure windows to prevent unauthorized access.

– Keep valuable items out of sight to deter potential thieves.

– Avoid leaving keys near doors or windows, as they can be easily accessed by burglars.

– Conceal car documents and identification to prevent theft or identity fraud.

– Use timers for lights and radios to create the impression of occupancy, especially during evenings.

– Activate burglar alarms to alert neighbors and authorities of any unauthorized entry.

– Lock side gates and secure sheds or garages to prevent theft of outdoor items.

– Store bicycles in a secure location, ideally inside a locked shed or garage.

Detective Sergeant Jon Lockwood from the Acquisitive Crime Team emphasizes the importance of reporting suspicious behavior to aid ongoing investigations. While these burglaries appear unrelated, vigilance within the community can help identify patterns and potential suspects.

In response to increased concerns, authorities are committed to addressing these incidents and ensuring the safety and security of residents. By implementing these security measures, homeowners can reduce the risk of becoming victims of burglary and contribute to maintaining a secure environment in their neighborhoods.
