Oxford United show keen interest in in-demand premier league midfielder
League One Charlton and Championship Oxford United are interested in signing Luton Town man Luke Berry.
Oxford United and Charlton Athletic are weighing up a move for Luton Town midfielder Luke Berry who is leaving the club as a free agent, as per journalist Darren Witcoop.
The Hatters made a good account for themselves in the top flight last season after achieving an unlikely promotion from the Championship.
Rob Edwards possessed a squad full of spirit, and while they finished six-points inside the drop zone, they can certainly be proud of their efforts.
However, Luton will now start preparing for the upcoming campaign with the goal of making the playoffs once more. On Friday, May 24, the team released their retained list, in which several significant choices about the starting lineup were made.
All Luton fans will be disappointed to learn that Dan Potts, Luke Berry, Fred Onyedinma, Elliot Thorpe, and Admiral Muskwe will all be released this summer when their contracts expire.
Players who were a part of some of their most momentous occasions in recent memory will be leaving them.
Since he signed with the team while they were in League Two and has spent the following seven years at Kenilworth Road, Luke Berry will always be remembered by Luton Town supporters.
Berry made history by becoming the only player in Luton’s history to score a goal for the team in each of the top four English football levels.
He’s looking for a new challenge now, and it seems he’s already had a few suitors.
Interest in Luke Berry
There will be some relief for a few EFL clubs searching for an experienced player in the middle of the park, since the midfielder is scheduled to become a free agent this summer.
Journalist Darren Witcoop disclosed on Sunday morning, May 26, that Berry is already drawing a lot of interest from EFL clubs.

The two selected by Witcoop were Oxford United, who just won promotion to the Championship through the League One play-offs, and Charlton Athletic of League One.
Berry and Nathan Jones are rumoured to be eager to get back together after spending a significant amount of time together at Luton.
The best option for Berry
After their time at Luton Town, Nathan Jones and Luke Berry developed a close friendship, so the 31-year-old would be wise to transfer to Charlton Athletic. This season, Jones’ Charlton team was on the verge of relegation in League One; however, after taking over in February, the Welshman has kept the team out of the drop zone.
With a lot of experience under his belt, Berry might play a significant role in a play-off campaign next season, as Charlton is probably one of the teams to watch under Jones.
Whether he is too good for League One is undoubtedly a contentious question. It seems like a quick fall for the midfield player, who made 17 Premier League appearances for Luton this season and recorded two goals and an assist, to tumble to the third division the following season.
Oxford United could be the ideal fit for him since, at thirty-one, he might have at least one more Championship season left in him. After winning the play-offs, the U’s will enter the upcoming season with a lot of momentum. However, if they want to survive, they will need to add some experienced Championship players to their roster.
Berry, who has played four complete seasons in the second division with Luton, would be the ideal free agent choice. He might offer some much-needed experience in the middle of the park.
