Young, 17, is highly regarded by Sunderland, and the club must make a huge decision about what to do with him next, despite interest from lower-level Football League clubs. He spent the previous season in the National League North with Darlington to gain experience.
According to journalist Nixon’s recent update on his status on his Patreon page, the Magpies are interested in bringing him to Meadow Lane temporarily. They just ended 14th on the table under Stuart Maynard.
Notts County eye Sunderland goalkeeper
Young might be a contender for Notts County’s top slot next season. They were promoted from the National League last year, alongside Wrexham, and they conceded far too many goals.
Maynard has to strengthen up their defense, and bringing in a new goalkeeper is at the top of his priority list.
Following his time in the sixth division with Darlington, a move to League Two would be Young’s natural next step.
He joined Darlo in February to further his development and is now back at the Stadium of Light. has spent his whole career at Sunderland, rising through the club’s youth divisions.
He has been a regular with the North East club at various junior levels and is currently awaiting his first-team debut. The youngster received his first professional contract in November, which runs until June 2026.
Notts County’s summer ahead
Notts County swiftly published their retained list, confirming that Jim O’Brien, Richard Brindley, John Bostock, Aden Baldwin, and Tobi Adebayo had been released. They have a vital few months ahead of them on the transfer front as they try to strengthen their ranks and compete at the top of the division.
Young’s name is the most recent to be linked with the Magpies, who are looking for a new goalkeeper as soon as possible.
