There’s still a general consensus that, barring a magical run to the conference finals or NBA Finals, Donovan Mitchell might very well demand a trade this summer, even after the Cleveland Cavaliers stole Game 2 in Boston in the Eastern Conference semifinals. There’s still one year remaining on Mitchell’s contract, and there hasn’t been any real progress towards a contract extension with the Cavs, so who knows what will happen between Cleveland and Mitchell this summer?

Once more, the Heat might be in a perfect position to catch a big fish when the offseason begins. Still up for debate is whether the Heat have enough trade assets to provide a compelling enough offer. With Jamie Jaquez Jr. and Nikola Jovic the only real premier trade assets Miami would be willing to part with, the Heat may not have enough draft capital to complete a deal. Nevertheless, Miami will be looking to make a significant roster upgrade come offseason.

And going into the offseason, the Heat will have a lot on their minds and on their plate due to the uncertainty surrounding Jimmy Butler’s future with the franchise. However, there’s a very real possibility that the Heat have another elite player who wants to play for the team and becomes disenchanted this offseason. They failed to seal the deals with Damian Lillard and Bradley Beal last summer. Will the Heat be able to close a deal this time?

Theoretically, going into next season, a team consisting of Jimmy, Bam, and Mitchell would emerge as the favourites in the Eastern Conference. Nevertheless, it could be too much of a pipe dream to ever see it realised.
