SHAUN HUTCHINSON will depart Millwall this summer, the Lions announced this afternoon. The club captain is out of contract and will leave The Den after eight years.
The 33-year-old joined the Lions in 2016 from Fulham and has made 257 appearances, scoring 14 goals. His most memorable goal was a late winner against Bristol Rovers in 2017 to give Millwall a 4-3 victory and a League One play-off spot on the final day of the season.
They would be promoted at Wembley Stadium after defeating Bradford City 1-0 in the play-off final. His last goal came in stoppage time against Bristol City on New Year’s Day, the last time the defender played 90 minutes.
Hutchinson was the club’s longest-serving player and a prominent personality on and off the field. But injuries plagued his final season at Millwall, and he only made 14 appearances in 2023-24.
The Lions will issue a statement in respect to the centre-back later this afternoon.
His departure stood out the most on Millwall’s retained list.
As previously announced, Bartosz Bialkowski is also departing the club after 169 appearances.
Abdul Abdulmalik, Nana Boateng, George Walker, Finley Cotton, Zane Myers, and Kyron McKay, all of whom appeared in yesterday night’s Professional Development League semi-final loss to Birmingham City, have all confirmed their departure from the club.
Seb Drozd, Frankie Hvid, and Arezki Hamouchene will also be leaving Millwall.
Kamarl Grant, Chinwike Okoli, Tom Leahy, Kyle Smith, and Sha’mar Lawson have all been handed new contracts, while George Evans, Oliver Evans, Ra’ees Bangura-Williams, and Henry Hearn all had options on their contracts exercised.
Josh Stephenson, academy player of the year for the under-18s, has been offered fresh contracts, as have Alfie Massey, Frankie Baker, Jack Howland, and Kavalli Heywood. Albert Penney, Christopher Ojemen, Frankie Maciocia, and Adedapo Olugbodi were all released.
