Manchester United are reportedly well-positioned to sign Michael Olise from Crystal Palace, despite competition from Chelsea for the winger.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe, part-owner of Manchester United, is keen to lead Old Trafford into a new era, focusing on developing young talents and promoting exciting, attacking football that resonates with the fans. Ratcliffe believes that acquiring top British prospects will contribute to Manchester United’s long-term success.
Ratcliffe and his team at INEOS have expressed dissatisfaction with the hefty £80 million deal that brought Antony to Old Trafford, an acquisition pushed by manager Erik ten Hag. They view this as poor business, with no expectation that the Brazilian winger would fetch even £50 million in the current market.
Ratcliffe and Manchester United are considered ‘frontrunners’ in the race to sign Olise, identifying him as a primary target. Although Chelsea are also pursuing the player—after nearly acquiring him last summer—Manchester United is optimistic that he will choose them. Even though Olise grew up in London, he reportedly followed Manchester United as a child and dreams of playing at Old Trafford.
Not being in the Champions League next season could pose challenges for Manchester United in attracting top players, but this is not expected to deter Olise. Chelsea made an attempt to sign Olise last summer by activating his £35 million release clause, but the 22-year-old extended his contract with Palace instead, with a new release clause set between £60-70 million.
Manchester United’s hopes are buoyed by reports suggesting that Olise could be available for a lower fee this summer, as Crystal Palace is aiming for a £50-60 million deal.
