Liam Payne’s Girlfriend Tried ‘Tough Love’ Approach Before His Passing
Liam Payne’s girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, reportedly resorted to a “tough love” approach in response to the singer’s struggles with substance abuse during their recent trip to Argentina. According to sources, Kate became increasingly concerned as Liam’s use of drugs and alcohol caused significant strain in their relationship.
The 31-year-old former One Direction star tragically passed away last month after falling from a balcony at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires. His cause of death was confirmed as “polytrauma and internal and external bleeding.” At the time of his death, Liam had been in Argentina with Kate, who returned to the U.S. alone.
While in Argentina, Liam was reportedly working to renew a visa that would allow him to return to the U.S. However, due to his past issues with substance abuse, he was required to pass medical exams and drug tests. After completing the tests, sources suggest that he relapsed, turning to narcotics and alcohol once again.
In response, Kate reportedly gave Liam an ultimatum: choose between her or the drugs. She hoped that this “tough love” would make him reconsider, but Liam chose the substances, forcing Kate to remove herself from the situation. The couple’s planned short trip was extended, with Kate staying for over two weeks before deciding to return to Florida.
Kate later shared her feelings with her followers, describing her time in Argentina with Liam as a “hostage situation” and mentioning that she felt the situation was becoming “very unhealthy.” She had hoped that Liam would follow her back to Miami, but instead, she ended up returning home alone.
Following Liam’s death, Kate shared a heartfelt tribute to him on social media. She expressed her deep grief, writing, “Thank you for all of the kind words and love that has been sent my way. I have been at a complete loss. Nothing about the past few days has felt real.” She also shared that Liam had plans to propose to her within the year.
Kate remembered Liam fondly, saying, “Your energy was contagious, lighting up every room you walked into… You had the kindest soul and the most fun-loving spirit.” She added, “A few weeks ago, we sat outside on a beautiful evening manifesting our lives together… I keep your note close, even though you told me not to look at it. It said, ‘Me and Kate to marry within a year/engaged and together forever 444.’ Liam, I know we’ll be together forever, but not in the way we had planned. You’ll always be with me. I’ve gained a g
uardian angel.”
