Argentinian authorities are intensifying their investigation into the tragic death of former One Direction singer Liam Payne, who passed away on October 16, 2024, after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires. They plan to interview his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, who left Argentina two days before his death. Officials have reached out to Cassidy, requesting a witness statement to provide context about Payne’s activities during his stay. She is not under suspicion of wrongdoing and has expressed willingness to cooperate fully with the investigation.
A friend of Cassidy stated, “She wants the right people to be brought to justice, and if that takes her answering their questions, she’s going to do it.” Cassidy had reportedly been supportive of Payne’s efforts to overcome substance abuse and is deeply affected by his passing.
The autopsy revealed that Payne had a toxic mixture of drugs in his system, including crack cocaine and “pink cocaine,” a combination of ketamine and other substances. Surveillance footage from the hotel shows Payne being carried unconscious through the lobby shortly before his fatal fall.
Three individuals have been charged in connection with Payne’s death. They face charges including “abandonment of a person followed by death” and “supply and facilitation of narcotics.” The accused include Rogelio “Roger” Nores, a close friend of Payne; Braian Nahuel Paiz, a former waiter at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel who allegedly sold cocaine to Payne; and an unnamed drug supplier who reportedly provided drugs to Payne on two occasions shortly before his death.
As the investigation continues, authorities hope that Cassidy’s testimony will shed light on the circumstances leading up to Payne’s untimely death and assist in holding those responsible accountable. Cassidy remains committed to aiding the investigation to ensure justice is served.
