Authorities in Argentina have launched a search for a luxurious Rolex watch that former One Direction member Liam Payne was reportedly wearing just before his tragic death. Payne, 31, fell from the third-floor balcony of the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires on October 16.
A missing Rolex that Payne had been wearing in the hours leading up to his death has triggered an investigation. Police found him without the watch after his fall and are now focusing their search on recovering the timepiece.
A source told La Nacion, an Argentine newspaper, “We know from footage that Payne was wearing the Rolex at least two to three hours before his fatal jump. The watch was on his hand, but it was gone when we inspected his body.”
In addition to searching for the missing watch, police have arrested three individuals. Two are suspected of supplying drugs, while a third is being investigated for “abandonment leading to death.”
The investigation has also expanded to the hotel room where Payne was staying, which remains sealed. Police have seized around 800 hours of security footage to aid in their inquiry.
Payne’s body was returned to the UK earlier this week in preparation for his funeral, which will be held next
week at St. Paul’s Church in Wolverhampton.
