Payne joined fellow judges Nicole Scherzinger from The Pussycat Dolls and Kelly Rowland from Destiny’s Child for Building The Band, a new competition series from Netflix. Production for the show wrapped in the summer, but it was still in post-production when Payne tragically passed away on October 16, 2024. The singer’s death occurred after a fall from a hotel balcony in Argentina, with an official report attributing his death to multiple traumatic injuries.
After the tragedy, there were concerns that the series might be scrapped. However, Netflix has confirmed that it intends to move forward with the project, with plans to release the final product. Sources indicate that conversations are ongoing with Payne’s family to determine how his involvement in the show will be handled.
