The Shanklin and Sandown Golf Club on the Isle of Wight hosted its annual Joint Captains’ Am-Am competition last Sunday (July 7), drawing 18 teams for a day of friendly competition and charitable giving.

This event successfully raised £654 for Care in the Garden, a local non-profit organization that provides work opportunities for adults with additional needs.

The competition featured a shotgun start and an exciting twist where players could purchase and play a ‘Joker’ on a designated hole, doubling their team’s score for that hole. This unique element added an extra layer of strategy and fun to the game.

The event saw impressive performances across various categories. The best men’s team and overall winners were Will Cartwright, Steve Cutler, Luke Hatch, and Mark Taskas, who scored an outstanding 134 points. Following closely, the best ladies’ team, consisting of Chris Gould, Lorrie Hawkins, Corrie Huntington, and Christine O’Brien, earned 128 points. The best-mixed team, with 125 points, included Catherine Bachelor, Mike Bulpitt, James Lucy, and Bev Whorwood.

The annual competition not only showcased the participants’ golfing skills but also their community spirit. The funds raised will support Care in the Garden’s mission to create meaningful work opportunities for adults with additional needs, making a significant impact on the local community.

Overall, the event was a tremendous success, blending competitive sportsmanship with a generous cause, reflecting the strong community values of the Isle of Wight. The Shanklin and Sandown Golf Club continues to demonstrate its commitment to local initiatives, bringing together golfers for a day of enjoyment and philanthropy.
