John Katz has officially stepped down from his role as Chief Executive Officer at Woking Football Club after three impactful years. Citing the need to reconnect with his family in the United States, Katz announced his departure while affirming his continued commitment to the club. Although he will no longer serve as CEO, Katz will remain on the board of directors and continue his duties as football secretary on non-matchdays.
Katz’s tenure at Woking FC has been marked by significant achievements and transformative changes. Since joining the club in 2019, he has been instrumental in driving a comprehensive rebranding effort and transitioning the team from part-time to full-time status. These strategic moves culminated in the club’s most successful season in over two decades, highlighted by a record points tally and their historic first appearance in the National League play-offs during the 2022/23 season.
Reflecting on his time with Woking FC, Katz expressed deep affection for the club and its community. He reminisced about his initial visits to Laithwaite Community Stadium and how those experiences fueled his passion for the club. Despite stepping down from his executive role, Katz reassured fans of his ongoing involvement with Woking FC, emphasizing his dedication to the club’s future success.
In response to Katz’s departure, the club has appointed Emanuele Palladino as the interim CEO. Palladino will manage the club’s operations and work on key initiatives such as developing a future investment strategy and driving revenue growth. Additionally, Dave Curtis, the long-standing general manager, has been promoted to Chief Operating Officer. Curtis will take on expanded responsibilities, including matchday duties previously handled by Katz.
Woking FC is also gearing up for their 2024-25 pre-season, with a series of friendlies lined up to prepare the team for the upcoming campaign. Their pre-season schedule includes matches against Horsham, Maidstone United, Reading, Salisbury, and Gillingham, offering a mix of competitive opportunities to hone their skills before the official season kicks off.
The club’s board and supporters have expressed their gratitude to Katz for his unwavering commitment and leadership, acknowledging the pivotal role he has played in the club’s recent successes. As Woking FC looks ahead to a new chapter, the foundation laid by Katz’s efforts promises a bright future for
the Cardinals.
