Chelsea’s star winger Jadon Sancho will not participate in their upcoming match against Manchester United at Old Trafford, and here’s the reason why.
Sancho Unavailable for Manchester United Match
Loan players are restricted from playing against their parent clubs Sancho has also recently lost his starting position at Chelsea
What Happened?
Sancho joined Chelsea on loan from Manchester United at the end of the summer transfer window after being sidelined by former United manager Erik ten Hag following a public dispute last season. He has performed well under Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca, but he will be unavailable for the important match against United, managed by Ruud van Nistelrooy.
The Explanation
Due to Football Association rules, loaned players cannot compete against their parent clubs in the Premier League. This regulation was implemented in 2004 after Lomana LuaLua, on loan from Newcastle, scored against them while playing for Portsmouth.
Did You Know?
Interestingly, the FA rules would permit Sancho to play against United if the teams faced each other in a domestic cup competition. Therefore, if they meet in the FA Cup later this season, Maresca would be able to include Sancho in the lineup.
What’s Next for Sancho?
Recently, Sancho’s position at Chelsea has diminished. Coach Maresca has indicated that this is due to “tactical reasons,” suggesting that he may return to the
starting lineup soon.
