Arsenal dominated Chelsea with a resounding 5-0 victory at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday. Kai Havertz scored twice against his former team, while Ben White also found the net twice following Leandro Trossard’s early goal.
Havertz made a swift run into the penalty area within the opening minute but fell to the ground, though an offside flag rightly halted any appeals for an early penalty from the home supporters.
Nevertheless, Arsenal swiftly seized the lead. Trossard was released down the left, and his strong shot slipped through Djordje Petrovic’s legs, finding the back of the net to put the Gunners in front within five minutes – marking the team’s 100th goal across all competitions this season.
Ten minutes later, Takehiro Tomiyasu sent a header over the bar as Arsenal continued to dominate, while Declan Rice’s curled shot from outside the box narrowly missed the target.
Chelsea gradually found their rhythm, and they came close to equalizing when Nicolas Jackson’s cross deflected off Gabriel and struck the post.
Djordje Petrovic redeemed himself with an excellent save to thwart Havertz, and he followed it up with another impressive stop to deny Trossard from close range.
Just before halftime, Nicolas Jackson had a golden opportunity to equalize when he rose to meet a cross, but the Senegal international appeared hesitant and ultimately let the ball drift past his head, unintentionally hitting his hand.
Petrovic once again thwarted Havertz shortly after the second half began, but White capitalized on the ensuing corner to extend Arsenal’s lead.
Havertz finally found the back of the net in the 57th minute. A brilliant pass from Martin Odegaard sent the former Chelsea player through on goal, and he joyfully celebrated scoring against his former team.
