Less than a year ago – before they become teammates on LIV Golf’s expansion Legion XIII lineup – Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton shared a final-round pairing at the BMW PGA Championship. It’s the DP World Tour’s flagship event, and both players were in contention.
As it turned out, Hatton shot a 66 to Rahm’s 68 that Sunday at the Wentworth Club, and his birdie on the 72nd hole gave him a temporary share of the lead and a spot in a potential playoff … until New Zealand’s Ryan Fox, playing in the final group, also birdied the final hole 30 minutes later to break the tie and win by a stroke. Hatton admitted to mixed emotions after the round, happy that he played well but disappointed that it wasn’t enough to break his victory drought.
Two weeks later, Rahm and Hatton partnered for two foursomes victories as Europe beat the U.S. in the Ryder Cup in Rome. Two months after that, Rahm announced his move to LIV Golf, with Hatton following him just before the start of the 2024 season.
