Geelong great Harry Taylor, known for his reliability and defensive prowess, will be inducted into the Geelong Football Club Hall of Fame next Saturday. Drafted 17th overall in the 2007 national draft, Taylor quickly secured his place in the reigning premiers’ lineup, debuting in the first round of the 2008 season.
Career Highlights
– 2009 Grand Final: Taylor’s breakout game came on the grandest stage, where he held St Kilda’s star forward Nick Riewoldt to just 13 disposals and one goal, helping the Cats to a 12-point Premiership victory.
– Accolades: Taylor ended his career as a two-time Premiership player and a two-time All-Australian.
– Versatility: Not only was he a top intercept defender, but he also showed his capability up forward, with several multi-goal games, including a six-goal performance against GWS in 2012.
Post-Playing Career
After retiring at the end of the 2020 season with 280 games under his belt, Taylor returned to Geelong in 2022 to lead the medical and fitness team, contributing significantly to the club’s Premiership success that year.
Taylor expressed his excitement for the upcoming Hall of Fame dinner, looking forward to reuniting with former teammates and celebrating the journey with his family.
The induction ceremony, set for June 22, will honor Taylor and other Cats legends for their contributions to the club.
