Guy Fieri and Sammy Hagar’s tequila brand, Santo Spirits, suffered a major loss when two trucks carrying $1 million worth of their premium tequila were hijacked in Laredo, Texas. The stolen shipment included over 24,000 bottles of Santo blanco, reposado, and an exclusive extra añejo tequila, the latter of which took 39 months to produce.
The theft involved a sophisticated “double brokering” scheme, where criminals spoofed GPS tracking signals to misdirect the trucks, which were heading to warehouses in California and Pennsylvania. This incident comes during the peak holiday sales season, further straining the supply chain and impacting their independent Mexican distiller and employees reliant on Santo’s sales.
Investigators from multiple agencies, including CargoNet, are working on the case, but the likelihood of recovering the goods appears slim. As a response, Santo Spirits has offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to the recovery of the extra añejo tequila, their “crown jewel.” The company is ramping up production to mitigate the supply shortage, though this setback threatens their momentum during a record-breaking year.
