Geelong Cats have secured the future of emerging midfielder Tanner Bruhn by extending his contract for an additional two years. Originally signed until the end of next season after transferring from GWS on a three-year deal, Bruhn is now committed to the club through 2027.
The 22-year-old midfielder has had an impressive start to the current season, prompting Geelong to solidify their partnership. Geelong’s football boss, Andrew Mackie, expressed the club’s excitement about Bruhn’s extension, stating, “We are thrilled for Tanner to extend for a further two seasons with us and have him committed to the Club until at least the end of 2027. Tanner has a bright future, and we are excited to see him grow alongside our group of emerging young players.”
Bruhn, a product of Newtown and Chilwell, was initially drafted by GWS with Pick 12 in the 2020 National Draft. After two years and 30 games with the New South Wales club, he sought a return to his hometown, leading Geelong to trade a first-round draft pick (Pick 21) for his services at the end of 2022.
In his first year with the Cats, Bruhn played 19 games and has continued to impress in 2024, adding 11 more games to his career tally. This season, he is averaging 18.45 disposals, 4.64 tackles, 3.55 inside 50s, and 5.55 clearances per game, solidifying his place in the team’s midfield under coach Chris Scott.
Bruhn’s re-signing follows Geelong’s recent contract extensions for several key players, including Jhye Clark (2026), Zach Guthrie (2025), Max Holmes (2028), Oisin Mullin (2025), and Mark O’Connor (2026). These moves demonstrate the club’s commitment to building a strong, cohesive team for the future.
With Bruhn’s contract extension, Geelong fans can look forward to seeing this talented midfielder develop further and contribute significantly to the team’s success in the coming years.
