Rotherham United’s summer recruitment frenzy continues with the arrival of a League One title winner at the New York Stadium on Friday.
Sean Raggett, a 31-year-old centre-back who made 44 appearances in all competitions for Portsmouth as they won League One last season, became former Peterborough United manager Steve Evans’ fifth acquisition when he agreed to a two-year contract yesterday.
He joins forward Jonson Clarke-Harris, left back Reece James, midfielder Shaun McWilliams, and right back Joe Rafferty as new Millers players. Rafferty was also part of Pompey’s winning squad last season, and Clarke-Harris (Posh) and James (Sheffield Wednesday) have also been promoted from League One.
Evans still has a long way to go to match the number of acquisitions he made for Posh during his one summer at the club. He scored 18 in preseason and another five in January, but he was fired before the end of the month, with Posh in the play-offs.
In League One, Stevenage, who have confirmed Alex Revell as Steve Evans’ replacement as manager, have signed forward Louis Appere, who was out of contract at Northampton Town.
Newly promoted Stockport County have signed midfielder/defender Jay Mingi from Colchester United for an undisclosed amount.
RELATED: AN UPDATE TO SUPPORTERS ON CLUB’S CENTENARY YEAR PLANS
Rotherham United can confirm that the club’s Centenary Year celebrations will run throughout the 2025/2026 season, commemorating the 100th anniversary of Rotherham United Football Club’s official formation on May 27, 1925.
Following online speculation among supporters in recent months about when and how the club will commemorate this historic milestone, we felt it was necessary to clarify that the wheels are already in motion across a number of departments in anticipation of the club’s 100th ‘birthday’ on May 27th, 2025.
Concepts for the centenary celebrations have already been widely discussed within the club, ranging from ideas for commemorative kits to be worn during the 2025/26 season to a bespoke set of brand guidelines to be used throughout club stationery and social media throughout the year.
Those similar conversations are already taking place with kit manufacturing partners Puma Teamwear, who are trying to create iconic commemorative kits while keeping the timetable of the concept to delivery process in mind.
We also believe it is vital to mention that this is a celebration of your football club’s 100th anniversary, and we would want to hear your thoughts on how this historic occasion might be appropriately remembered.
As part of these preparations, we are seeking supporters to send in photographs from the club’s long and distinguished history that they consider to be the most iconic, to assist us in determining which events and milestones you believe are the most significant.
We want to see photographs of Lee Frecklington celebrating after his late entrance into the box to fire home, as well as Keith Bambridge and the League Cup finalists of 1961 in action.
The club is investigating how these photos could be included into any prospective 2025/26 campaign plans, as well as the idea of creating a unique retail collection just for the 100-year celebration.
We know you’ll be as excited as we are for the celebrations that will begin in just over a year, and we hope you’ll contribute your ideas during the build-up to ensure that when the milestone arrives, it feels like an all-encompassing celebration of everything Rotherham United.
