The former Peterborough United boss Gary Johnson has returned to the EFL after a six-year absence.
Johnson managed Posh for nine months, from April 2010 to January 2011, but was fired with the team in League One play-off contention to make way for the return of Darren Ferguson.
Johnson had previously been a successful manager at Yeovil Town and Bristol City before assuming the Posh post.
After leaving Posh, he managed Northampton Town, Yeovil for the second time, Cheltenham, and Torquay United.
He left Torquay in February 2022, with the club mid-table in the National League South, but has since been appointed director of football at Cheltenham Town.
Johnson will work with Cheltenham’s new head coach. Darrell Clarke, the Robins’ head coach from last season, left for Barnsley earlier today.
Johnson has not worked in the English Football League since his dismissal as Cheltenham manager in 2018.
Johnson signed Posh players Grant McCann and Lee Tomlin, as well as Cheltenham’s Mo Eisa from non-league football.
Eisa was sold twice for more over £1 million, first to Bristol City and later to Posh.
