Mark Bonner, a former Cambridge United manager, has been named the new manager of League Two club Gillingham. The 38-year-old replaces Stephen Clemence, who was fired at the end of last month after less than six months in charge.
Bonner led Cambridge to promotion from League Two in 2021, but was fired in November 2023, just four points above the League One relegation zone, following a humiliating 5-0 derby day defeat at Peterborough United.
Bonner has signed to a two-year contract at Priestfield Stadium.
“He has the experience to get us where we want to go,” managing director Joe Comper stated on the club’s website. “We were seeking for a leader who had direct experience playing successfully in League Two. We were also searching for someone who has led a team out of the league and had the ability to foster that type of aspirational culture.

RELATED: Renew your Season Ticket by Friday’s deadline
Existing Cambridge United Season Ticket Holders have until the end of Friday, May 31 to renew their season tickets at the lower renewal fee…
Renewals have been open for a month, and almost 2,250 supporters have already signed up for next season. Last season, the Cledara Abbey Stadium had its best average attendance in over 30 years, at 86%, therefore fans must renew to ensure a spot at all of the important games next season.
Not only are costs lower if purchased before the weekend, but it is the only way to secure a Main Stand ticket, since all seats will be released when we go on General Sale on Tuesday, July 4. Friday’s deadline is also the last chance for fans to pay for their Season Ticket in five monthly installments.
