Morecambe have released winger Brandon Barker, who formerly played for Rotherham United and Manchester City.

The wideman was tipped for success as he rose through the Manchester City development ranks and earned caps for England at underage level.

However, he only made one senior appearance for his boyhood club. He spent a brief loan spell at Rotherham United, where he scored once in four appearances. After leaving Manchester City permanently in 2019, he went on to play for Rangers, Reading, and Omonia.

In a statement, Morecambe stated: “We’d like to place on record our thanks to all our outgoing players for their efforts while at the club and wish them all the very best in their future endeavours.”

Reece James is seeking for a new club after his contract with Hillsborough expired, and he could make a short-distance move.

Rotherham United are interested in signing defender Reece James after he left Sheffield Wednesday.

According to The Sheffield Star, the Millers will face competition in the hunt to recruit the 30-year-old. While the Owls managed to avoid relegation to League One this season, Rotherham did not. The Millers finished bottom of the Championship table and are preparing to return to English football’s third tier.

The Millers finished bottom of the Championship standings and are ready to return to English football’s third division.

Rotherham are already taking moves to put together a side capable of challenging for another promotion in the coming season, led by the newly returned Steve Evans.

Rotherham United keen on Reece James deal

James originally arrived at Sheffield Wednesday in the summer of 2022, when he signed on loan from Blackpool.

The left-back played a key role in the Owls’ promotion from League One last season, prompting a permanent move to Hillsborough last summer.

However, his opportunities have been limited this season, and it has been confirmed that he will depart Sheffield Wednesday this summer when his contract expires.

Nonetheless, interest in James appears to be growing, with the most recent report indicating that Rotherham are interested in signing the defender.

The Millers are expected to begin talks about a deal for James this week, albeit there will be competition for his services elsewhere.

The full-back previously made eight loan appearances for Rotherham United in the 2014-15 season, during Evans’ first time in charge.

Other League One and League Two clubs are reportedly interested in the full-back, as they were during the January transfer window.

Rotherham have already had a successful start to the summer in terms of recruitment. The Millers have signed forward Jonson Clarke-Harris, midfielder Shaun McWilliams, and right-back Joe Rafferty on a free transfer after their contracts with Peterborough United, Northampton Town, and Portsmouth expired.
