The 39-year-old defender has been playing in the English Football League (EFL), representing Cheltenham Town this season after transferring from Derby County. Despite his performance with the Robins, it has been announced that he will leave Whaddon Road when his contract ends this summer.
Cheltenham released a statement expressing gratitude to all departing players and wishing them success in their future endeavors.
Curtis Davies has had a remarkable career, playing for teams like Aston Villa, West Bromwich Albion, Birmingham City, and Hull City. Although he was called up to an England squad in 2008 without making an appearance, he later represented Sierra Leone at the international level.
Now at 39, Davies has to decide whether to continue playing or retire. Following the conclusion of the League One regular season, Cheltenham manager Darrell Clarke mentioned that the veteran defender would “probably” retire.
Clarke praised Davies, stating, “Curtis has just spoken, and what a warrior he is. He’ll probably call it a day now, but what a guy. He said it was a privilege to play with these boys, commending their resilience this season, and his words are always direct. That’s a credit to the players, who received recognition from a true warrior.”
Davies made 144 appearances for Hull City, scoring seven goals and playing a key role in the team’s promotion to the Premier League in 2016.
